Preparing to Start an MTM Service: Taking the Next Step

APhA's publication, How to Start an MTM Practice: A Guidebook for Pharmacists,lays out the steps for pharmacists who are exploring the development of an MTM service in their practice. The guidebook, which can also be utilized for the development of other pharmacy services, provides important considerations for creating a business model and preparing to write a business plan. This shortcourse is designed to support pharmacists as they work to further refine and implement the plans that they develop as they work through the guidebook. Course participants should complete all exercises and worksheets in the guidebook prior to the meeting, and may submit case studies of their practice situations to be presented and discussed. A copy of the guidebook is included in the course fee.

Residency program directors and preceptors can use this systematic approach to design and deliver community care pharmacy practice residency training to enhance the quality of existing or start-up programs. Pre-readings will prepare attendees to participate in simulation of the design of a program using the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' Residency Learning System (RLS) Model. The workshop includes hands-on experience in applying direct observation to assess resident performance. Registrants will be sent study materials in the mail. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) doubles a person's chance of surviving from sudden cardiac arrest. The American Heart Association estimates that 100,000 to 200,000 lives per year could be saved if CPR were performed early enough. This course will cover Adult CPR with a review in child and infant CPR, as well as AED use. Each student will receive a two-year certification from the American Heart Association in Adult CPR.

This two-day course provides a robust preparatory curriculum for the ambulatory care pharmacy professional preparing for the examination or provides 16 hours of credits towards recertification. Based on the domains, tasks, and knowledge statements developed by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) for the examination, the course will provide an in-depth review of patient care issues for ambulatory care practitioners and help them prepare for the exam by:
- Reviewing pertinent clinical topics and practice skills
- Providing exam practice questions
- Listing valuable resources for further self-study
Pharmacists can confidently prepare for BPS' newest certification, Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, with this cutting-edge educational programming. This case-based, interactive course is an excellent review for pharmacists working in, or wishing to work in, ambulatory care and will teach them to apply their knowledge and skills in preparation for the exam using patient case studies. Upon completion of the review/recertification course pharmacists will have strengthened and broadened their skill set, and will be better prepared to meet the growing demand for this specialized practice.
This session is part of the ASHP/APhA professional development program for recertification of Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACP) approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). To earn recertification credit from the BCACP Review and Recertification Course, BCACPs must attend and actively participate in all 16 hours of the course and successfully complete the online assessment test by the deadline. Only completed assessment tests will be eligible for recertification credit; no partial or incomplete assessment tests will be processed. Registration does not include the $50 fee for recertification assessment test. BCACPs may participate in the Ambulatory Pharmacy Care Review and Recertification Course twice during their 7-year recertification cycle.

Ambulatory Care Intensive Study Sessions A and B
Held on Friday, Sessions A and B are part of the APhA/ASHP professional development program for recertification of Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACP) approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). Register for both intensive studies and save!
To earn recertification credit from the BCACP Recertification Intensive Study, BCACPs must attend both three-hour sessions and successfully complete the online assessment tests by the deadline. Only completed assessment tests will be eligible for recertification credit; no partial or incomplete assessment tests will be processed. Registration does not include lunch or $50 fee for online recertification assessment test. BCACPs may participate in the BCACP Recertification Intensive Study as many times as they wish throughout their 7-year certification cycle to attain the required recertification credit. This course is designed for the Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) for recertification credit, but is also available to all pharmacists interested in a level-3 content for ACPE credit.

Certificate Programs in Pharmacy, officially termed practice-based activities by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), are structured and systematic post-graduate continuing pharmacy education experiences for pharmacists designed to instill, expand, or enhance practice competencies through the acquisition of specified knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance behaviors. APhA certificate training programs involve in-depth commitment on the part of learners, including both self-study and attendance at live seminar presentations.

The Delivering Medication Therapy Management Certificate Training Program is an active learning seminar in which participants practice a variety of communication techniques to elicit a patient's medication experience and identify medication-related problems, using cases based on the real-life experiences of MTM providers. Participants will gain experience interviewing patients, identifying and prioritizing medication-related problems, developing and implementing interventions, and documenting activities. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to explore various business models and billing strategies and discuss plans for implementation.
